Maf nº 1 - Contributor of the week: Deeptha Babu

13/03/2026

Over the next few weeks, we'll be introducing the contributors for Maf nº 1!

Kicking off with Deeptha Babu  and They Matter,  a photo series capturing the invisible presence of immigrant labor in NYC: delivery workers, janitors, cooks, and construction laborers, workers often overlooked, yet essential to the city.

Our issue is coming soon! 🌍✊

Deeptha Babu is an MFA Graduate from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, with a background in visual storytelling, editorial design, and interactive media. Her practice centers on socially engaged art, feminist and marginalized narratives, and experimental forms that explore identity, resistance, and collectivity. Through books, installations, and interactive projects, she investigates the intersections of art, design, and social transformation, aiming to create meaningful spaces for dialogue, empathy, and action.

They Matter is a visual and textual exploration of identity, resistance, and the spaces we carve for collective empowerment. Through intimate narratives and imagery, the book examines how marginalized voices persist, imagine, and navigate structures of oppression, creating imaginative spaces of solidarity and possibility. The work invites readers to reflect on the subtle yet powerful forms of activism, empathy, and social connection that thrive in everyday life.
